Job Description

The primary responsibility is to assist the 1st Engineer with safe and efficient maintenance and repair of plant and machinery onboard the ship.

Under the instructions of the 1st Engineer, the responsibilities will include:
• Installing, inspecting, maintaining and repairing complex piping systems and the valves, gauges and switches associated with the those systems onboard the ship
• Reading and interpreting blueprints and procedures that are used to install, fabricate, inspect, and test the various piping systems and components
• Identifying different material types, identifying and using various fittings as designed, fit-up various weld, brazed and/or mechanical piping joints and properly using the appropriate tooling for performing the job
• Familiarity with safe operation of equipment and systems in machinery spaces
• Maintaining all machinery spaces in a clean and safe condition
• Other additional duties as assigned

This position requires working at extreme heights, in confined spaces, involves physical labor and various weather conditions

Requirements

• 2-3 years experience on passenger vessels as Welder, Fitter, or Engine Repairman
• Must have extensive knowledge of welding, including overhead welding, TIP and MIG
• Extensive experience in re-fitting of pipework on passenger ships is essential
• Must be able to read blue prints, schematics and mechanical drawings
• Must have the ability to bend and thread pipe and fittings and fabricate templates
• Must be able to rip out, repair, target, layout, fabricate, install and test marine piping systems
• Welding Certification required
• Basic Safety as per STCW 95
