Job Description

Product responsible textile engineer. Bring great design into mass production, and follow up that design and quality are maintained at a high level. On behalf of our client, Stokke, Nigel Wright is searching for an experienced Textile Engineer to handle Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and New Product Development (NPD) activities, including optimization of product manufacturing processes. The positions are based at Stokke’s headquarters in Ålesund, Norway. 

 

Main job responsibilities

  • Develop new textile/soft good solutions for products in projects.
  • In collaboration with design team, develop textile part of new product based on factors as market and user needs, design requirements, safety, durability, and cost.
  • Create prototypes and evaluate solutions using Stokke’s textile workshops.
  • In partnership with suppliers create and refine patterns and construction specifications from initial sewing samples through to final production.
  • Describe and communicate the products in specifications, cut patters and textile trimming.
  • Give feedback to suppliers for sample revisions to meet final approved standards.
  • Execute on part approval process for textile products.
  • Dialogue with supplier during product development projects to secure transition into mass production.
  • Technical product responsible for textile products in given categories.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement and ensure the right balance between cost and quality.
  • Keep the technical specification and documentation updated in Stokke’s PLM system for given products.
  • Give technical support to operation manager in move production projects and other operational issues.

Other characteristics and qualifications: 

  • Textile engineer education or equivalent relevant education combined with min. 3 years of relevant industry experience. 
  • Technical sewing skills for constructing soft goods for products, and knowledge about industrial sewing techniques as well as the process from fibers to finished goods. 
  • Pattern drafting skills to generate prototype sewing patterns, as well as final manufacturing production patterns.
  • Strong aesthetic sense, with ability to evaluate and make material/quality recommendations.
  • Self-motivation, excellent communication and commitment to follow up.  
  • Computer skills, specifically in MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop and Illustrator. Experience with PLM system is a plus. 
  • Fluent in English and with the ability to travel internationally.
