Data Technology Consultant (Data Engineering)

We are looking for an experienced Data Technology Consultant to join our Data Engineering leadership team across Lithuania and Latvia.

This role is designed for a strong technical leader who combines deep data engineering expertise with consulting skills, people leadership, business understanding, and the ability to grow engineering capabilities. You will work closely with the Data Head for the Baltics, acting as a key partner in scaling the Data Engineering practice, developing teams, and driving technical excellence across the region.

You will lead a team of 20+ data engineers, support hiring and talent development, shape engineering practices, participate in strategic client discussions, and help define how Data Engineering evolves within EPAM Baltics.

The ideal candidate is someone who can operate at both strategic and technical levels: understanding complex data challenges, guiding architecture decisions, mentoring engineers, and building a high-performing engineering culture.

• Lead and support a Data Engineering team of 20+ engineers across Lithuania and Latvia, providing mentorship, technical guidance, and career development support
• Partner with the Data Head for the Baltics to define and execute the Data Engineering strategy and grow the regional practice
• Drive hiring, onboarding, team scaling, and development of engineering talent
• Establish and improve engineering practices, standards, and delivery approaches across data projects
• Provide technical leadership and support architecture decisions for enterprise-scale data platforms and solutions
• Collaborate with clients, delivery leaders, and stakeholders to understand business challenges and define effective data strategies
• Participate in presales activities, solution design, technical discussions, and client engagements
• Promote adoption of modern data technologies, Big Data solutions, cloud platforms, and engineering best practices
• Ensure delivery of scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable data solutions
• Communicate technical concepts and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences

• 8+ years of experience in IT, with a strong focus on Data Engineering and enterprise data platforms
• 3+ years of experience in technical leadership, engineering management, architecture, or data leadership roles
• Proven experience mentoring and guiding engineering teams (experience with teams of 10+ engineers is preferred)
• Experience building and scaling engineering teams, including hiring and talent development
• Strong expertise in Data Engineering concepts: data pipelines, data modelling, data platforms, data warehousing, and Big Data solutions
• Experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale data architectures
• Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT patterns and batch and streaming data processing
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python
• Hands-on experience with modern data engineering technologies such as Apache Spark, Databricks, and/or Snowflake
• Experience with cloud data platforms, preferably AWS and/or Azure
• Experience with distributed data processing and streaming technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Flink
• Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, architects, clients, and business stakeholders
• Strong English communication skills

• Experience working in an IT services or consulting environment
• Presales and business development experience: RFPs, SoWs, solution proposals, and client workshops
• Experience building Data Engineering practices or communities from the ground up
• Cloud or data platform certifications (Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Experience integrating enterprise data platforms with large business systems such as ERP, CRM, banking, or other enterprise solutions
