Lead of Prototyping

RedWire Defense Tech is seeking an experienced Lead of Prototyping to lead and further develop the company’s prototyping capabilities for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), managing the prototyping team, improving manufacturing and prototyping processes, and collaborating closely with R&D, (NPI) engineering, and flight operations teams to deliver high-quality prototypes and R&D assets.

• Lead the prototyping department and oversee daily operations
• Manage, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of technicians, including CNC machining, composites, and mechanical assembly
• Improve and optimize production and prototyping technologies and processes
• Ensure sustainable operation of the department, including:
• maintenance of machinery and equipment
• management of spare parts, materials, and consumables
• Participate in product development with a focus on manufacturability and usability
• Develop and expand prototyping capabilities and workflows
• Manage departmental assets, including R&D aircraft and equipment
• Support and perform testing, validation, and investigative activities.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems, Electrical, or related field)
• Experience in aerospace, defense, or UAS industries is preferred
• Experience leading teams or departments is an advantage
• Strong technical understanding of manufacturing and prototyping processes
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
• Good spoken and written English skills
